Domestic Funding

what funding is out there and how can you access it?

Government Energy Saving Grants

In Scotland, there are a few funding options available for energy efficiency and heating improvements:

Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan: This scheme offers a combination of grants and interest-free loans for various energy efficiency and heating improvements. For example, you could receive a grant of up to £7,500 for clean heating systems and potentially an additional £7,500 loan to cover the remaining costs. There’s also a rural uplift grant for properties in rural or island locations, providing extra financial support.

To get more information or to see if you qualify, you can use the Home Energy Scotland funding finder tool or call their helpline at:

Eco 4: The ECO4 scheme in Scotland is part of the UK Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO), which aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty in low-income and vulnerable households. The program is primarily designed for homes with poor energy efficiency ratings (D, E, F, or G) and provides funding for a variety of measures, such as insulation, renewable heating systems, and solar panels.

To qualify you must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit

Qualifying Benefits for ECO4 Funding

  1. Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
  2. Income-related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)
  3. Income Support (IS)
  4. Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit)
  5. Working Tax Credit (WTC)
  6. Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  7. Universal Credit (UC)
  8. Housing Benefit
  9. Child Benefit (Note: If Child Benefit is the only qualifying benefit, you will also need to meet certain income thresholds to qualify).

The eligibility requirements differ slightly from previous ECO schemes, as some benefits, such as Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP), have been removed from the qualifying list. However, if you are not receiving any of the above benefits, you may still qualify through the "Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (ECO4 Flex)" route if your household is considered low-income or vulnerable.
